So close to heaven
The former Benedictine monastery of St. Michael is located on one of Bamberg's seven hills, the Michaelsberg. Its former abbey church with its famous sky garden will be open to the public again from April 26, 2026, following its closure in 2012.
Guided tours through the reopened church
Guided tours through the reopened St. Michael's Church can now be booked and will be conducted regularly by BAMBERG Tourism & Congress Service starting May 1, 2026.
May to October
Fridays from 3:00 p.m.
Saturdays from 11:00 a.m.
Lecture series at Bamberg Adult Education Center
From February to April, a series of lectures will be held at the Bamberg City Adult Education Center on numerous topics related to the restoration work, ahead of the upcoming reopening of St. Michael's Church. Courses on the theme of the "heavenly garden" will also be available throughout the 2026 summer semester.
