The Bürgerspitalstiftung owns approximately 1,100 hectares of forest. Since June 2021, the wide variety of game that has always been hunted there has been available for purchase under the “Bamberger Stiftsgarten” brand at the farm shop in the Weipelsdorf forest lodge, depending on hunting success and the season.

The farm shop was established as part of the renovation of the forester's lodge and the Bamberg Citizens' Hospital Foundation's consideration of marketing its own game under the label “Bamberger Stiftsgarten” (Bamberg Abbey Garden).
As the habits of purchasing game and the availability from the foundation's hunting operations have changed, marketing the game through the farm shop is a sensible way to sell it. A fine selection of other culinary products from around Michaelsberg now complements the farm shop's range.
Awareness of regional and healthy foods has grown significantly in recent years. Society is clearly demonstrating how important animal welfare and the treatment of animals are to it. The increased availability of game meat is a step in this direction.
Game dishes are among the most special culinary experiences in cooking: Game meat is a high-quality food, low in fat and rich in minerals such as potassium, copper, phosphorus, iron, and zinc. It also contains a very high proportion of omega-3 fatty acids. Game feeds on what nature provides and ends up in the kitchen without having to travel long distances. However, due to its limited availability, it will always remain a special delicacy.
